May 2016 Catch Returns
May 2016 has shown by some margin the best catch returns for May with 66 fish recorded!
Most anglers are fishing with small naturals and the fish have started to feed on and off throughout the day. And with some great evening rises reported, too.
Most productive flies have been GHRE, Diawl Bach and other nymph patterns. I can also report personal catches of 18 fish (14 returned) on these flies along with claret buzzers, black hoppers (although hawthorne hatches are now over) and green montana. Also some very late evening action in the later part of the month with dry sedge patterns, but the evening sedge swarms are usually a little later in the year, so watch out for the June reports for more on these – hopefully!
One final note, although actually on June 2nd, was a report from a day ticket holder, Charlie, just 9 years old from Stockport landing his first ever brownie, a nice 2lb fish. I guess we all remember our first ever brownie on a fly, so it will be great for Charlie to recall a day on Llyn Coron in the years to come. Let’s hope he carries on fishing…
