Kayak Fishing On Day Ticket
I fished Llyn Coron today as a visitor (permit bought on-line). Although I blanked there was plenty of fish activity, I just couldn’t reach them. I fished the North and West shore as best I could. Following the website advice, I made my way to the lake via the footpath just North of the car park, no mean feat given the vegetation. I also tried to access the bank further south from the car park which proved equally frustrating. You have a lovely lake but I guess for visitors like me without a boat its a serious problem getting decent lake access. So to my question. Is there any possibility of visitors like myself using a Canadian Kayak to Fly fish from or even to access other parts of the lake? I have also fly fished off a sit-on kayak before with some success.
We do try to arrange working parties from time to time to clear the vegetation, but as we’re just a small syndicate and many of our anglers are not young and fit, it’s a problem on such a large lake. Additionally, I think it’s fair to say that most natural still-water fisheries across the region don’t have managed banks, with wading necessary at the height of the summer bank-side vegetation growth.
We do make the point on our website that we aren’t like a small a commercial fishery, and of course our low day ticket prices reflect this accordingly.
With regards to bringing a kayak to the water, we’d have no problem with that at all, so if you do decide to return please feel free to fish from your boat here. Also, unlike a lot of other waters, we do allow float tubes. But do bear in mind that you do use it at your own risk, so we always recommend that you take all reasonable safety steps, such as wearing a life jacket and ensuring that your equipment is in good order.
